GSM or Satellite?

GSM (Global System for Mobiles) is a terrestrial network that requires towers to provide a connection or service area. Limitations are similar to those in the United States in that when you are out of range you will not be able to place or receive calls. The Iridium Satellite phones are not limited by coverage area as they depend on orbiting satellites for a connection. These phones are perfect for remote areas, cruises, and Mexico. If you are unsure about which type of phone to you need our experts will confirm directly with customer.

Steps In Ordering a Phone:

Rental Rates

1. The GSM phones rent for $72/wk + airtime.
The agent must collect the reservation fee of $30 directly from customer (TravelCurrency will not reimburse this fee if uncollected). TravelCurrency will collect remaining rental of $42 and airtime charges upon return of phone.

2. The Iridium Satellite phones rent for $159/wk + airtime. The agent must collect the reservation fee of $40 directly from customer (TravelCurrency will not reimburse this fee if uncollected). TravelCurrency will collect remaining rental of $119 and airtime charges upon return of phone.

Airtime Rates

1. Airtime for GSM phones depends on the type of call and the origination point of the call. Please refer to the chart and "Zones 1 - 5" for specific pricing. Voice mail is included with all GSM phone rentals.

2. Airtime for Iridium Satellite phones is billed at a flat $2.50 per minute from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world. Incoming calls are free for the Iridium Satellite phone user (long distance will be charged to originator by their long distance carrier).

Making a Reservation

Simply fill out the "Order Form" and you are finished. We will contact the customer directly to facilitate the contract, which the customer must sign and return. Upon verifying the returned contract we will confirm the order directly with the customer, arrange the appropriate delivery date and issue them their unique international number. The customer can the supply their number to anyone who may need to reach them while they are on vacation, such as family or co-workers.

Deliver/Return

We will ship the phone directly to the client (typically the day prior to departure). The customer will return the phone directly to us upon return from their trip.

Theft and Loss Protection

This optional coverage is available on any phone we rent. Coverage for GSM phones is $1/day with a $125 deductible and the Iridium Satellite coverage is $6/day with a $500 deductible. If the customer chooses not to accept this coverage they would be responsible for full replacement cost (this amount varies by type of phone).
